bathroom remodel

Here is what started the bathroom remodel. See that pipe in the corner....it leaked. Eww! And I am not just talking leaking only water! Remember there was carpet in this bathroom, which was bad enough by itself, but the combination of leaking yuckiness and carpet was just to much for me! It had to go ASAP!!! .....and it did:)

I was so happy.....well kinda......when I found the broken pipe! It was leaking everywhere! Finding the leak was a pain since It was behind a wall and the entire bathroom was flooded. The sheet rock walls and the paneling had soaked up the water and started to mold. There were some lovely mushrooms growing to! 

There is the wall I tore out and you can see what the walls looked like kind of... What you can't see it that tan color isn't paint. There used to be wall paper in this bathroom that they started to pull out but never finished. The entire bottom of all the walls were water stained and beginning to mold. I had to wear a mask and gloves while tearing everything out. It was gross! I am so glad that is done.

These are the walls after tearing out all the sheet rock and after sealing cracks and nail holes. See that hideous tan-ish yellow color...... ALL the walls were than color! And what you can't see is the even more hideous green color that was swirled into it. It was truly awful! This is one of those times you just scratch your head and say "what the heck were they thinking!!" OR "Were they thinking is more like it!" There was a drop ceiling but I took that out as well. The new frame work will be made from the stuff that was in there but I will be doing smaller white tiles and painting the framework black. The tiles are the one that were in there I am just cutting them to size and painting them the same white as the walls and shower.

 The shower is made of cinder block and brick. It leaked because it was never sealed properly. Here are pictures after I applied the concrete sealer then high gloss white exterior paint. I needed to to with stand getting wet all the time as there are 4 boys that use this shower. The interior paint wouldn't have lasted very long. The surface was really rough after sealing it but the thick paint, after several coats, gave it a smoother texture. And isn't nearly as bad now. The pipes will be painted chrome and I am going to install a shower caddy to hold the soap and shampoo. If you look at the top of the shower you might notice an ugly gray pipe with a hold cut in it. That is a heat vent. and is how the ceiling was until I installed some mildew resistant plastic on top and a vent cover......So far so good.

Put new tile down on the bathroom floor. The tile was donated to me by a friend so there wasn't enough of either one to do it all solid so after several layouts this is what I chose to go with! I am so happy I did. I love the look. These were peal and stick tiles but given the fact that I am putting them on concrete I wanted them to stay, so I used tile adhesive. They are not going anywhere now!

Decided to go with a black white dragon theme. I hand made stencils and used them to paint on the wall. I need to touch up the edges by hand though. The concrete bricks are bumpy and there was some paint saturation behind the stencil.

 I am proud of my dragons! I love the way they turned out. I am going to put a boarder around them to make them stand out a little bit more and break up the white walls. Don't get me wrong I like the white walls I just want to give it more of a finished feel.

                    

New light fixtures are in and wired! I had to custom make a installation box for this fixture and for the outlet. I used the shape of the fixture and traced it onto more or the 1"in ply wood. There was 1x1 framed in sheet rock walls previous to tearing out everything. But I kind of liked the blocks. Keeping the blocks though meant customizing other stuff to make it work. This was one of those things. It was challenging but I am pleased with how it turned out! The conduit will eventually be painted either black or chrome. I haven't decided yet. All the open pipes will be painted either black or chrome as well. Who wants ugly pipes when a little bit of paint will give them a much better look!

My new custom made vanity. To make this I used an old bed frame for the legs. The shelves will remain open shelves and I will get some nice baskets to put on them to hide the pipes and use for storage. I used 1in thick ply wood for the shelves. They ply wood came from shipping crates. $0 spent on this vanity. The sink came from the original vanity that was in here. Unfortunately it got soaked in water from the leaky pipe.and had mildew all over it and fell apart when we took it out. Oh well I like this one better!

Tried my had at painting marble. I still need to put poly on it but I think it turned out pretty nice. I tried to mirror the look of the black marble tile I used on the floor. Framed in the mirror and painted the frame black. More new light fixtures. Only money spent was for the paint. :) Which make me very happy! You can also see in the mirror that I did the boarder around the dragons! Now the wall look more compete! I will have to get a better picture of it but you get the idea.

A better look at the frame work. I still need to paint some of them black. I will get to it soon I hope.

More updates as I get things done. Then pictures of the finished product. :) With Christmas next week they might be a little while.......
